- Twelve warriors who rode around his tomb like an escort of honor
- Soldiers praised all of his accomplishment, and how they would miss him
- The closing passage restated everything that he accomplished
- His bravery, kindness, and generosity
- The poem says, “They said that of all the kings upon the earth he was the man most gracious and fair-minded, kindest to his people and keenest to win fame.”
- The whole closing passage involves all of the soldiers and people praising him and grieving over all of their loss
- Beowulf was loved and honored by his people and he will not be forgotten
- There is also mention of the memorial his people will build for him so all the people coming and going by the sea will see it and not forget him.
- All of these set up a somber tone, but at the same time, it sets a tone of awe at all of Beowulf’s accomplishments and the fact that he is gone.
